Twitter ,is great invention ,it was started in Oct 2006 and had rapidally gained popularity till 2007.Twitter is social networking and micro-blogging service....#micro blogging means brief text updates and publish them ...# as here twitter allows users to send Tweets ,say updates, textual posts, up to 140 characters long) to the Twitter website, via SMS , instant messaging,directly from website,or by a third-party application .SMS,is currently available for the United States,Canada and India as well as a United Kingdom number for international use .
According to the website tweets are answer to a simple question What are you doing?....hmmmm which you generally ask your freinds while having conversation on phone or chat....
Now the question arrises why to use twitter .... the twitter website has a cool answer...

colleagues—especially when they’re timely.

that useful.
Partying? Your friends may want to join you.
In twitter when you subscribe t someone's updates you are called his follower and when you catch someone's update then it'll show following#numbet of people you are following.
